Miami Gardens is set to join the 2022 Formula 1 track roster for the next 10 years. A city with such sporting heritage now has one more thing to add to its list. The temporary street circuit, named the Hard Rock Stadium Circuit, is one of two US circuits in the season and will be the 11th track to be used in the country.

How The Track Came About

The track is a temporary one which is reported to have a permanent feel to it. The majority of it is flat, however any bumps or inclines have been incorporate into the circuit. The 5.41km 19 turn track has an average speed of 223km/h (138 mph) with a top speed of 320km/h (198 mph). The track has two confirmed DRS zones at Turn 11 and 17, with a plan to put a third one in a Turn 1, having come down the straight after Turn 19. Make sure to check out onboard simulator for the track here:

Community Impact

The We Race As One initiative has pushed the sport to improve equality. For the first time ever, a Grand Prix will be held in a predominantly African-American community. It is thought that bringing the F1 into this area of Miami will help the local economy, which is made up of so many small businesses as race fans will flock to it. According to the promoters, there will be 4,000 new jobs created in the community with over 35,000 hotel bookings for the race weekend, intending to inject $400 million into the economy of the area each year.

Moreover, there is a plan in place to support the community, from adapting practice times to fit around things such as the school run in the area, reserving tickers for the locals, to STEM education programme though the F1 in Schools initiative, Formula 1 have seemed to really try to get the local community involved with the the new circuit. This is all incredibly positive news.

Whilst the exact date of the race is yet to be confirmed (it is expected to be in 2nd quarter of 2022), the track seems a hugely exciting development in Formula 1. The circuit which has been designed for close racing will absolutely provide racing thrills for fans everywhere. Bring on Miami 2022!
