The Singapore GP has been cancelled for the second year in a row. The race organisers confirmed today that it would not take place, citing Covid-19 restrictions as the reason. The race weekend was meant to take place between the 1st and 3rd of October. A replacement race has not been confirmed yet, however, there are rumours of multiple options, such as putting Turkey back on the calendar, China or even a second race in the USA.
The Chairman of the Singapore GP commented on the cancellation, saying:
‘To cancel the event for a second year is an incredibly difficult decision, but a necessary one in light of the prevailing restrictions for live events in Singapore…. Since its debut, the Formula 1 Singapore Grand Prix has attracted fans from over 100 countries and established itself as more than just a race with a robust circuit-wide concert and entertainment line-up. Given the evolving and unpredictable pandemic situation around the world, it has become increasingly challenging to stage a complex multi-faceted event for tens of thousands of local and overseas spectators.’
The Singapore Grand Prix is usually a great race. It happens in the heart of the city at the Marina Bay Street Circuit. The circuit length is 5.063km (3.146 mi) and the drivers complete 61 laps, which includes 23 turns and 3 DRS zones. The fastest race lap is held by Kevin Magnussen with 1:41.095 in 2019.

There has been F1 racing in the Singapore since 1966, however, the current track first appeared in 2008, becoming the first nighttime race on the calendar. The 2020 race was also cancelled due to Covid-19. Fan were eager to get back to the track this year, but they are going to have to wait one more year.
