Many fans were incredibly disappointed when the Turkey GP (which had be brought in to replace the cancelled Canadian GP) was cancelled, due to COVID related issues. But there is some good news! Turkey has been re added to the schedule to replace the cancelled Singapore GP between the 1-3rd October. This will be part of the triple header of Russia, Turkey and then Japan.

The Intercity Istanbul Park Circuit is located in the Tuzla district of Istanbul; the race is 58 lap, as the circuit is 5.388 km (3.317 miles) long with 13 turns and 2 DRS zones. The circuit held F1 races between 2005 and 2011, where it was then dropped, but reintroduced in 2020. The layout looks like this:

President and CEO of F1 commented on the change, saying:

“We are delighted to be coming back to Turkey to Intercity Istanbul Park circuit. We hope to see another fantastic race again in one of the best tracks in the world.... We want to thank the Intercity Istanbul Park management and Mr. Vural Ak for his personal efforts to make this event to happen. We have shown that we can continue to adapt and there is huge interest in our sport and the hope from many locations to have a Grand Prix.... We have had very good conversations with all the other promoters since the start of the year and continue to work closely with them during this period.”

The 2020 race was a great one. Lance Stroll qualified P1, with Verstappen P2, and Perez P3. In the end. Hamilton came in P1, Perez P2 and Vettel P3. The fastest lap went to Lando Norris with 1:36.806 with an average speed of 198.508 km/ph. The 2020 race was also where Lewis Hamilton won his 7th World Championship. With yet another change in the schedule due to COVID, there is still some uncertainty over the second half of the season. Despite a full capacity crowd being announced Silverstone, the Japanese MotoGP race has been cancelled, which is the week before the F1 weekend there. Suzuka are still planning to go ahead with the F1 weekend, so stay tuned, but fingers crossed this is the last change to the schedule we will see!
